  6. KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSin the sub-region • A programme of training vocational training on entrepreneurship • Kazkhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia • Since 1997 in Kazakhstan

  7. KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSin the sub-region: strategic objectives • Promoting youth employment • Providing opportunities for youth for career guidance in the field of entrepreneurship and self-employment • Promoting entrepreneurial culture

KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSin the sub-region: tasks • Increase awareness of students in the technical vocational schools on opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-employment • Provide information on how to start business, how to be successful in business, and in particular, in the small enterprise • Prepare students for productive work in small and medium enterprises, and for working in the situation of absence or lack of formal waged employment

KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSв in the sub-region: target groups • Final target group: the youth – learners/students • Direct target group: teachers of technical vocational educational establishments • Staff of training centres, dealing with the issues of organising/conducting training on entrepreneurship • Policy makers and other employees of ministries and governmental agencies in charge of technical vocation education and training

KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSв in the sub-region: Azerbaijan • Training for teachers of technical vocations schools (KAB TOT), October 2007 • Training for social constituents, interested stakeholders, and teachers of secondary and technical vocational schools ( KAB ТОТ), February-March 2005 • KAB materials were translated into Azerbaijani language • Adaptation of materials, multiplication and distribution among the pilot TVET schools planned in 2007-08 • Pilot testing of the KAB curricula is planned as one of courses in the TVET schools (2008-09)

KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSв in the sub-region: Armenia • Training for teachers of technical vocational schools (KAB TOT), April-March 2005 • Based on recommendations of tripartite partners a pilot approbation of the programme is planned in the Russian language, and based on the results translation and adaptation of materials into Armenian are planned

  12. KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSв in the sub-region: Kazakhstan • 1997-99 –adaptation of first materials within the project suported by the Luxembourg Government. Testing of materials. • 2002-03 – 2 ТОТs, 30 trainers prepared • 2003 – decree of Government on introduction of KAB as obligatory course in the curricula of technical vocational schools • 12 TVET schools are currently implementing the KAB programme

KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSв in the sub-region: Kyrgyzstan • 2002 – first TOT for teachers • 2004 – Decree of TVET Department on introduction of KAB course into the curricula of technical vocational schools • 3 trainings for teachers (ТОТ) – December 2004, May andDecember 2005 • More then 30 TVET schools participate in the KAB programme • Materials were translated into Kyrgyz language, multiplied and distributed among the participating TVET schools

  14. KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSв in the sub-region: Tajikistan • 2003 – first KAB training of teachers (ТОТ) • 2004 - ТОТ within the project «Entrepreneurship Development» • Pilot approbation of the KAB programme is planned

KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSв in the sub-region: Uzbekistan • 2004 – Training for teachers (ТОТ) • Ad hoc pilot approbation of the KAB programme took place in 2004-05 and the recommendation of teachers was to continue with extension of the programme and its formal introduction • November 2005 – 2nd ТОТ, 15 teachers were trained • Technical Vocational Centre under the Ministry of Education is interested in KAB extension throughout the TVET schools (2007)

  16. KNOW ABOUT BUSINESSв in the sub-region: Russia • Ad hoc training of teachers of Belgorod State University by potential KAB Facilitator, May 2007 • Ad hoc pilot approbation of the KAB programme at the Belgorod State University in 2007-08.

  17. Conclusions/Lessons Learned • Students are very interested • Provides a learning experience different from conventional/classical education. Active learning, unusual communication with a teacher as supporter/team player • Change of attitudes, increased self-reliance, desire to influence and shape circumstances, development of personal potential • Entrepreneurial skills acquired help students in more active contribution to the existing family business

Conclusions/Lessons Learned – cont • Teachers consider KAB to be extremely beneficial for their professional development • TVET teachers – direct interest, perspectives, • TVET teachers- self-improvement, professional and personal growth, (long) waited opportunity for self-advancement, desire to start own business • TVET teachers- change of attitude to organisation of education process, • TVET teachers- availability of a complete set of training course on economic education. • There are no teachers that would completely reject the program, but admittedly few have skepticism

Conclusions/Lessons Learned – cont • TVET schools – practical applications of the KAB, solution of graduates’ job placement problem, new training methods and tools, upgrading teachers’ qualification • Constant changes in the business plan to take into account changing bank requirements. The Master file (Facilitators Handbook) was revised twice. The training plan is constantly revised to adapt to country differences. More then 10 business and role games were introduced by current MTs. • Uzbekistan suggests to issue a handbook of business games. • There is a proposal to revise the current Business Game in order to transfer it from a separate module into a set of training tools with practical game situations.
