  2. A note from me …… I was absent today, so once again our newsletter is a day late getting out. Thank you for your patience! Today (1/22) was the 100th day of school----time is really flying by. I enjoyed visiting with each of you and your children last week during our conferences. It is always exciting to celebrate growth and progress and set new goals for increased and continued success. Lots of discussion turned to homework habits and practicing math facts. Please refer to our class website for homework suggestions . Is your child tired, listless, or lethargic? Changes in weather, staying up too late, or skipping breakfast can wreak havoc with your child’s school performance. We are well into the third quarter of the year, which is traditionally the most difficult of all. This is when your child begins to apply the newly acquired third grade information, concepts and skills, and will be continually be introduced to more material at increased difficulty. Good study habits are crucial. Tenacity is a great word that applies to each of our students. They need to have tenacity to be the best third grader they can possibly be. You can help your child be successful in their study habits by sticking to a regular schedule and routine at home and providing a nutritious breakfast before coming to school. If your child is struggling in an academic area, limiting video games and TV on school nights can make a world of difference in their classroom success. Teaching our children never to give up, to encourage others, and to do their best are critical to character development and are skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. Tenacity is the mystery word of the week. There is a champion within every child who can accomplish amazing things with positive motivation and specific directions that lead to their success. Are you providing your child with opportunities to make decisions and problem solve at home? Our students need lots of experiences with thinking skills, problem solving, and decision making to be successful. Doing everything for your child may ensure that it looks better or is done correctly, but it does not teach them to think for themselves or to deal with disappointment. Instead, it enables them to be helpless, doubtful, and increasingly dependent on others. “Football is like life----it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect for authority.” ~~~Vince Lombardi
