  2. A note from me… Welcome back! The weather here was beautiful and I hope you all had a great, relaxing spring break. We have heard about some awesome trips that many of you took and some exciting activities that took place! We should now all be back in the groove and ready to give it our best for the last nine weeks of the year. We are on the downhill side of third grade and still have lots to learn and do. The year is flying by at such a rapid pace, and this quarter brings us to our final preparations for AIMS testing in mid-April. Just a reminder as report cards come home this Friday, that this has been the hardest quarter of the school year. You may notice your child has dropped in some areas. Please remember how important it is for you to provide praise where appropriate and when improvement has been made, and encouragement and additional practice time with you where necessary. Please sign the back of the envelope and return it on Monday. The actual report card is yours to keep. AIMS testing, our state standardized test, is only four weeks away. This is the time for your student to “show what they know!” This is the first time that your child takes the AIMS test. This state-mandated criterion-referenced test measures a student’s mastery of the curriculum. AIMS is administered in April for students in grades three through eight beginning the week of April 16th. As we draw closer to that week, information will be coming home about snacks we will be having, good test taking strategies, the importance of a healthy and nutritious breakfast each morning, bedtimes, etc. We all play an important role in helping your child perform to the best of their ability. There is an opportunity for you and your child to participate in taking practice AIMS tests at home online, (as often as you would like!) using the link on our school website: http://www.mpsaz.org/falconhill/ From there you can click on the link for AIMS practice tests. It is a great opportunity for you to watch your child use their strategies, as well as see some samples of what to expect on the actual test. Our character trait this month is “fairness.” Discuss with your child what they consider fairness to mean, and how they practice fairness in their daily interactions with their peers and siblings. How have they observed fairness being practiced at home and at school? It’s a great topic for discussion and their responses may astound you. The mystery word this week is report cards! Thanks to all our the parents who so willingly volunteered to accompany us this Friday on our field trip to the Wells Fargo Historical Museum. The parents whose names were drawn were the following: Ms. Cangiolosi, Mrs. Hyden, and Mrs. Bird. Permission slips for our next trip will be coming home this Friday, so please put your name in again if you would like to join us. (however, if you will be serving as a chaperone this week, please give someone else an opportunity!) Our next trip will be Thursday, April 5th, down to Maricopa, AZ to tour and experience the U of A Agricultural Center Farm (MAC Farm) Another point system for this trip will begin next Monday, March 26th. “If you can dream it, you can DO it! “ ~~~~ Walt Disney
