Vocabulary • Patriot A colonist who was against British rule and supported the rebel cause. • Loyalist A person who remained loyal to the British king. • neutral Not choosing a side in a disagreement. • inflation An economic condition that results in an increase in the price of goods. • profiteering Charging an extra-high price for a good or service • veteran A person who has served in the military

Personal and EconomicHardships • Why do you think some colonists remained neutral during the war? • They were torn between their loyalty to Britain and to the colonies. • How did the war affect some colonial families? • Disagreements about the war broke some families apart. • How did inflation affect people during the Revolutionary war? • People needed more money to buy the same amount of goods. People began profiteering.
