Helicopter view • Poland: 38 mln citizens • EU accession: 1 May 2004 EHIC introduction in EU: 1 May 2004 • NFZ (National Health Fund): 37 mln insurees • NFZ budget: € 14 bln • No of EHICs/year: 1.3 mln • Cost of EHICs/year: € 3 mln
Everyday practice (& problems) • Reissue of EHICs due to short validity period • Vague procedure for obtaining Provisional Replacement Certificates (PRC) • Electronic data exchange for all internal claims (including EU citizens) – but paper copies of EHICs needed
Satisfaction ? • but in Poland: • No of HCPs:> 30000 • No of hospitals: > 700 • No of pharmacies: > 11 000
Expectations • Easy way for patients without EHICs • Facilitating data capture for HCPs • Simplification of reimbursement process (for HCPs and CIs)
