  1. 866 Христос — основа Церкви 1. The Church’s one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord, She is His new creation By water and the word; 1. Христос — основа Церкви, Лишь в Нём стоит она; Его бессмертным словом Она возрождена;

  2. From heav’n He came and sought her To be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her, And for her life He died. С небес её взыскал Он, За жизнь её страдал, Омыл Своею кровью И к святости призвал.

  3. 2. She is from ev’ry nation, Yet one o’er all the earth, Her charter of salvation, One Lord, one faith, one birth; 2. Рассеяна повсюду, Но духом скреплена, Единым хлебом свыше Питаема она.

  4. One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With ev’ry grace endued. Одно святое Имя Сливает все сердца, В едином упованьи Претерпят до конца.

  5. 3. Though with a scornful wonder Men see her sore oppressed, By schisms rent asunder, By heresies distressed: 3. Терзаема раздором, Грехом угнетена, Неверностью пред миром Теперь посрамлена.

  6. Yet saints their watch are keeping, Their cry goes up, “How long?” And soon the night of weeping Shall be the morn of song! Но глас святых взывает, Не смолкнет их мольба, Доколе светлым утром Сменится ночи тьма.

  7. 4. ’Mid toil and tribulation, And tumult of her war, She waits the consummation Of peace forevermore; 4. Средь скорби и томленья, И битвы со врагом, Как жаждет наступленья Покоя со Христом;

  8. Till with the vision glorious Her longing eyes are blest, And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest. Когда виденье славы Узрят её глаза И торжество победы Наступит навсегда!

  9. 5. Yet she on earth hath union With God the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion With those whose rest is won; 5. И здесь она в общеньи С Отцом и со Христом, И облаком объята Свидетелей кругом.

  10. With all her sons and daughters, Who by the Master’s hand Led through the deathly waters, Repose in Eden land. Велико их блаженство! О, дай, Господь, и нам, Подобно им, в смиреньи Стремиться к небесам!
