Leadership In Energy And Environmental Design • LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. • LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. 6

  7. Why LEED ? • LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: • Sustainable Site Development Water Savings • Energy Efficiency • Materials Selection • Indoor Environmental Quality.

Newly Installed or Replaced Carpet in GSA Leased and Owned Buildings … Carpet must have third party certification in accordance with NSF 140 2007 e Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard at a "Gold" level minimum. Carpet manufacturer must supply certificate as part of the procurement documentation. Recycle Content of the Total Product Weight: Must be either Pre-consumer or Post-consumer content or a combination of these. Broadloom: minimum of 10%. Modular Tile: minimum of 30%.

Newly Installed or Replaced Carpet in GSA Leased and Owned Buildings … • Low Emitting Materials: Carpet and floor adhesive must meet the Green Label Plus and floor adhesive requirements of the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI). • Carpet and all installation components including adhesives, sealers, seam welds and seam sealers must meet the Low Emitting Materials standards as outlined in LEED criteria. • Adhesives must meet VOC content standards per South Coast Air Quality Management District Rule #1168.
