  1. Educational Policy Timeline

  2. Task • You have the task of researching the British education system in a given period of history. Your task today is to do the research. • Next lesson, we will use your research to build a whole class timeline.

  3. Task • Number 1’s – Education before 1944, a historical view • Number 2’s– 1944-1965 –(The Tripartite System) • Number 3’s – 1965-1978 (Comprehensivisation) • Number 4’s – 1979-1997 (Twenty years of Tory educational policy) • Number 5’s – 1997 – 2007 (New Labour) • Number 6’s – 2007 – now (Current government) • Use books and the internet. • Include any definitions of key terms that you think are important. • Try to find some interesting images. • You must print off any pictures or information you want to use in advance (or email to me to print).

  4. To be included in each section. • Who was the government and Prime Minister at the time? • What changes happened to the education system during this period? What was introduced, taken away? • What where the main aims of the government regarding education (raising achievement, increasing choice, raising standards, bridging gaps between rich and poor)? • What was particularly good/bad? What worked/didn’t work and why? • Include key dates of education acts and policies
