  1. Testing Process • From a certain distance, we tested for the amount of energy lost by the AirSoft BB, when it hit Aluminum Foil, Plastic and a Composite.

  2. Materials • Aluminum Foil • Plastic Garbage Bags • Composite with Aluminum Foil and Plastic Garbage Bags

  3. Gun Specs • 350 fps (0.2 g BB) • Full Size Automatic M15A4 Air soft AEG (Air soft Electric Gun) Rifle • Adjustable Hop-up system

  4. Properties of Materials

  5. Details of Aluminum Copper:increases the strength and hardness and makes the alloy heat-treatable; Magnesium: increases tensile strength, resistance to marine corrosion, weld ability and hardness; Manganese: increases strength and resistance to corrosion; Silicon: lowers the melting point and improves castability; Zinc: improves strength and hardness.

  13. Real Life • Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth. • Building & Construction Industry • Manufacture of Electrical Products • Packaging & Containers • Cooking Utensils • Aeronautical, Aviation & Automotive Industries • Leisure Goods

  14. What This Means • The aluminum is relatively light and is best used for retaining its shape after being molded and for hard protective coatings, but are easily subjective to cold working making it more brittle. • By only using plastic you have a material that is flexible in most situations, or it could allow the material to dissipate energy and still retain its original structure. • Composite material gives the hardness needed like aluminum as well as the flexibility of needed in high impact situations as in plastic • The strength to weight ratio in the composite would be the best if the cost of the material is expensive. • Composite Example: Plexi-glass, laminated glass for hockey rinks and for bullet proofing.
