  1. Good Reward or Bad Reward: The Choice is Yours Mark 4:21-25; Luke 8:16-18

  2. And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

  3. Outline I. God’s Revelation of Jesus and the Gospel (v. 21-22) a. Hidden or partial b. Full and eventually complete II. Man’s Responsibility (v. 23-25) a. You get to choose the measure you use b. Hearing results in more revelation c. Some think they “have” but they really don’t

  4. Linking the Context Mark 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: • Mark 4:21 is a clarification of Mark 4:11

  5. In the Previous Parable The seed is the Logos; now Jesus is the lamp (the light)

  6. Mark 4:21 • And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? In the same way lamps are meant to be set in the open—so too will the Person and Work of Jesus be fully revealed to the to the world.

  7. Look forward To Mark 4:34

  8. Mark 4:22 • For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; • neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

  9. The Apostles The apostles do not follow Jesus’ example of using parables to hide truth.

  10. Jesus’ Identity Jesus’ identity in the gospels is shrouded with mystery and hidden revelation.

  11. Look back @ Mark 3:11-12

  12. Mark 3:11-12 • And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.

  13. Jesus’ Self-Designation Was “son of man” not Son of God while he was on this earth.

  14. After the Resurrection The mystery is being revealed, as the gospel is preached, and the partial covering of the light is completely removed.

  15. On the Road to Emmaus The mystery was completely uncovered: Luke 24:27 • And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

  16. Paul Said Ephesians 6:6 • And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

  17. Matthew 5:14 Jesus Said: • Ye are the light of the world. • A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

  18. Matthew 10:27 Jesus Said: • What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

  19. Question When will the revelation of Christ be complete?

  20. Listen to Paul Romans 14:11-12

  21. Romans 14:11-12 • For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. • So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

  22. What does Philippians 2:9-11 say about the revelation of Christ?

  27. Luke 6:38 • Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. • For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

  32. Luke’s Clarification Luke 8:18 • Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, • from him shall be taken even that which he seemethto have.
