  2. BACKGROUND INFO • Screen resolution refers to the pixelresolution of a person’s computer monitor. • Before laptops and flat-screen/LCD monitor became popular, many computer users had monitors with smaller resolutions. Within the last several years, higher resolutions have become more common. • The larger the screen resolution, the more items you can view on your screen at once.

  4. BACKGROUND INFO • Which screen resolution do you use at home when surfing the Web? • 800 X 600? • 1024 X 768? • >1024 X 768?

  5. BACKGROUND INFO • Which screen resolution do other users use when surfing the Web?

  6. WEB PAGE DESIGN • When creating a web page using a layout with a table or layers, choose a page width that can be seen entirely on the smallest possible screen resolution. • You don’t want users to have to scroll from left-to-right in order to view content on your web page because of the fact that you made your page too wide. • You also don’t want users to have to manually change their monitor’s resolution settings just so that they can view your web page efficiently.

  7. WEB PAGE DESIGN • Another thing to keep in mind is that when users surf the Internet, some of them do not have their Internet browser maximized to fill the entire screen. Even if you maximize your Internet’s browser, other users surfing the Web may not. • As a general rule of thumb, do not make your web pages any wider than approximately 950 pixels wide (to account for scroll bars and any side bars). • http://www.target.com
