  2. Do Now Yesterday we learned about the Oregon and Santa Fe trails. These trails served as roads that gave the land hungry settlers access to the west and a chance at a new life. With these new roads, the only obstacle (problem) that faced settlers were the Native Americans who had lived in the west for generations. Do Now: We all know that Native Americans were either Killed or Relocated. The question is: Why and How? 1. Brainstorm why and how white Settlers removed Indians from their home Land.

Also view just the center figure. • In column 1, write ONLY what you see. • Then, in column 2, write descriptions of what you feel. • Discuss the painting and its quadrants.   13. What Your History Book Left Out • Throughout history, European countries stole and colonized the land of brown, yellow, and red skinned people. They did this because they felt that their culture, religion, race, and intelligence was superior to others who were different. People used this same mentality to enslave African Americans because to some, those who had dark skin were not human. For example, Blacks were property and Native Americans were “savages”.

These settlers did not want to live side by side the natives; they instead wanted the natives to leave. Using evidence from a primary source explain why.
