  2. SIOP • OBJECTIVES: • TODAY, I WILL LEARN … • MY JOB IS TO … EXAMPLES: TODAY, I WILL LEARN MS HARRIS’ CLASSROOM PROCEDURES. MY JOB IS TO LISTEN, ASK QUESTIONS, AND PARTICIPATE IN THE DISCUSSIONS OR DEMONSTRATIONS.

  3. Greetings: • Our focus this year is • (PBIS - “Positive Behavior Intervention Support!” • Thank you to all of you that gave items from the wish list.

  5. APPOINTMENT HOURS: • Conferences are by appointment only; please call or emaileither during planning periods or after school. • 7th period planning appointments can be scheduled from 2:00– 2:30 PM or • 8th period planning appointments can be scheduled from 2:45 – 3:15 PM • (No Mon & Thurs afternoons).

  6. HOMEROOM BELLS: • The first bell is at 8:00 am at this time students need to report to homeroom. Students are reminded to go to their lockers and bathroom before reporting to class. The tardy bell will ring at 8:12 am. Please arrive at the scheduled time (Listed above).

  7. HOMEROOM PROCEDURE: • Teacher will be at the classroom door monitoring the hall & class at this time. • Students are asked to enter “Quietly.” • Students are asked to sharpen pencils at this time. Then, complete Warm-Up. • Students are not to exit classroom once they have come to homeroom.

  8. HOW TO START WORK? • Students should follow the agenda on the overhead or chalkboard. • Students are to handle all financial needs at this time. Please try to bring correct change. • Students will turn-in Communications folders each Wednesday with any signed paperwork. Report cards and progress reports are to be signed & returned promptly (THE NEXT DAY). • Students should remain seated in their desk at all times.

  9. LOCKERS: STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SHARE LOCKERS!! • STUDENTS WILL BE ASSIGNED LOCKERS. • IF THEY LOSS THEIR LOCK, THEY WILL HAVE TO PAY $6. APPROPRIATE LOCKER TIMES - • Before homeroom. • Before & after lunch. • At the end of the day. REMEMBER YOUR COMBINATION!

  10. BATHROOM: • Students must have a pass for all trips to bathroom. • Students must sign-in and out when going to restroom. • Students must keep the pass visible during their trip to & from the restroom. • Students are reminded to wash hands thoroughly before returning to class.

  11. ENTERING THE ROOM • Entering the classroom: • 1. Students are asked to enter quietly. Turn in any homework or paperwork. • 2. Students are asked to sharpen pencils during this time. • 3. Students should follow the agenda on the overhead or chalkboard.

  12. MOVEMENT IN CLASS: • 1. Students must be in their seat when the bell rings with all needed materials. • 2. Students are asked to raise their hands and wait for permission before moving from their desk. • 3. Students are to keep trash at their desk until the end of class unless instructed by teacher.

  13. MOVING IN CLASS contd. • 4. When working in pairs or groups, students are to move to and from desk as instructed by teacher. When in groups, students must respect others’ materials at their desks. • 5. Students are not to answer the telephone or door unless instructed by teacher. Answer: “Ms. Harris’ room, please hold.” (Never play on the phone!)

  14. EXITING CLASS: • Students are to be dismissed by the teacher not the bell. Turn in any class work. • Students need to check around their desk for any trash on the floor. • Students are to make sure that they remove all materials and personal items. • Students are to file out in a line by rows. Follow teacher instructions.

  15. LUNCH: • Students may go to lockers and restrooms before/after lunch. • Students are not to talk when traveling through “Quiet Zones” on their way to lunch. • Students are allowed one trip through the lunch line. Students must get all extras (condiments and snack machines items) and use microwave before seating down. • Students are to exhibit proper table manners and clean up after themselves (i.e. spills & trash).

  16. LUNCH: • Students are to sit in their designated areas unless they have a sit-with-a-friend pass. • Students that are assigned to “Silent” or “Options” lunch are to report to the designated area promptly (directly after going through the line). No snacks allowed in ISS area. • Student helpers are to clean tables and sweep the floor before leaving the cafeteria. All students will serve cafeteria duty for one week. The rotation will continue throughout the year.

  17. LUNCH Note: • Outside food is no longer permitted in cafeteria. If they forget lunch & you bring restaurant food, they will be directed to a separate setting to eat it. • Students need to pay for food when purchased. Students with outstanding charges will receive a letter home to their parent/guardian(s). • Nofood goes outside the cafeteria unless it is in a lunch box!

  18. TELEPHONE USAGE: • Students will ask for permission first. They must write down the number they are calling. • Any calls should be made at the beginning of class, unless it’s an emergency. • No long distance calls are allowed. Calls will be made from main office only. • The office will dial the number and get the guardian on the phone; then, the student may communicate his/her message.

  19. CELL PHONES: • No cell phones are to be present or used in the classroom by any student at anytime. See Student Handbook. • Students will receive one warning. • Second offense: Phone is taken & kept in office. Parents may pick it up the next business day.

  20. BUSES: School rules apply to the bus also! • There will be a seating chart. • Report to your bus immediately follow dismissal or after going to your locker. • Please do not linger!

  21. EMERGENCIES: • See Student Handbook about Fire drills, Tornado drills, and Lockdown procedures.

  22. TEACHER EMERGENCY: Medical emergencies will be dealt with as they arise! Coach Gaddy ext. 2276 • Should the teacher become so sick or ill that she can no longer communicate, a student should immediately call contact Mr. Taylor ext. 2217 (go through secondary exit) & Mrs. Best ext. 2277 (1st Responders). • The class is to continue working until they receive further instructions.

  23. FREE TIME IN CLASS • You are encouraged to bring an AR book daily. Free time is for reading! • NO WORK from other classes may be done in my class without permission! • No work is to be done in INK including class notes! Pencils only.

  24. ASSIGNMENTS: • Homework- is to be done on loose-leaf paper and turned in at the beginning of class. • Journals - are to be done daily during the first 5 minutes of class. You must write 5 to 7 complete sentences. Please use proper English and punctuation skills.

  25. ASSIGNMENTS: • Notes- are to be kept in a composition book or in binder behind SS or Math section. • Quizzes- maybe announced or not (Pop quiz). Study nightly & keep good notes! • Test - come in various forms. • See School Honor Code and review it before each test. • Any form of cheating will be dealt with according to school guidelines.

  26. Grading policy: • A 93-100 • B 85-92 • C 77-84 • D 70-76 • F 69 or below • Areas of Focus: • Classroom Participation/Homework 20% • -Current Events/Extra Credit • Quizzes 30% • -Projects/Labs/Vocabulary • Tests50% • Total: 100%

  27. Late work: • All assignments that are turned in without a heading will receive a 10-point deductionfrom the final score. • Late homework will not be accepted. Students must come to class prepared. • Students will not be allowed to go to lockers or other classrooms to retrieve assignments. • Make-up work is to be turned in promptly (3 days).

  28. Attendance: • Students are responsible for getting any missed notes. • I suggest students have two class buddies to keep them up-to-date if absence occurs. • Assignments are due on the student’s next day at school when returning from being absent. • Extended absences will be dealt with on an individual basis.

  29. Tardiness: • If a student is tardy to class, he/she will receive a “Step.” See “Step” policy in Student Handbook. Skipping results in an Office Referral. • Please be on-time or have a signed and dated teacher’s note (it will also be your hall pass). • ** Excessive tardiness will require teacher/student conference and/or parent/teacher/student conference. See Handbook also.

  30. Year long goal: • Remember the “PROPs” system! • Our focus this year is “Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS)!” • My motto: “Invest in the future, teach a child!” • “Know who you are, what you stand for, what you believe, and what you want to achieve.
