Objectives • To inform you of the year 5 curriculum. • To inform you of the expectations for children in year five and upper KS2.
Routines • 8.55am – school begins • 3.15pm – school ends • Late procedures - ASC • Contact with teachers • Healthy snack for playtime (must be fruit) • Playground rules before/after school (no scooters/bikes across the playground, or playing on equipment)
Sickness • If your child has a ‘bug’, it is our school policy that they are kept at home for 48 hours after the last episode. • Inform school • Speak to us in the morning
Uniform • Full uniform to be worn at all times - this includes their tie which it to be worn every day • Hair must be tied back • Summer uniform ends 1st October • Earrings should not be worn in school – children can not take part in PE if they wear earrings. • Full PE kits should be in school Monday to Friday.This includes shorts, t-shirt, jumper, tracksuit bottoms and trainers. • Thursdays - children go home in PE kits. Return next day • Verrucas must be covered P.E for 5H – Wednesday (indoor) Thursday (outdoor) EVERY item should be clearly named.
Equipment • We will provide the children with stationery, but they can bring their own pencil case to school • Glue stick – named please • Small toys and gadgets are not allowed
English • Daily English lessons in the morning • Games and whiteboard work • Year 5 and 6 word list – focus (go over year3 and 4 in first term) • Handwriting • Accurate punctuation • Presentation – ‘zero tolerance’ • Grammar – weekly focus • Spelling – words go home , test on Fridays
Reading • Regular reading in school with high level adult input • Follow up homework each week – a high standard is expected • Comprehension– answer using the text • Additional reading sessions if needed
Maths • Daily maths lessons in the morning • Mental maths focus to begin each lesson • Problem solving skills • Reasoning skills • Vocabulary – including correct spelling • Times tables – all facts should be known by the end of year 4 (up to 12x12) • FAST maths – Tuesday, folders back by following Monday
FAST MATHS • Weekly sessions in school on Tuesday – whole class activity – various activities – test • Folders must be returned on Monday
Trips and visits • Chertsey Museum– History focus • Sikh temple – RE focus • London Zoo – Science focus • Letters will be sent out
Homework • Spelling Test– Fridays(back on Thursday) • Reading- weekly • FAST maths Tuesday – back by Monday • Mathletics – set every Tuesday, back by Monday • Timetables Rockstars – lesson on Monday, own choice at home
Inclusion • Intervention within class (Mrs Gilford) and out of class ( Mrs OB). • Contact Mrs Jenkins (Inclusion leader)
Assessment • Series of steps and statements to match year 5 expectations • 5b, 5b+, 5w, 5w+, 5s, 5s+ (working towards expectations, working at expectations or working at with greater depth) • Regular assessment – formal and informal in class
Classroom Management • High expectations • Positive learning environment • Star of the week • House points • Stickers • Celebrating work walls
