Guide : When the Dvaravati period was replaced by the Khmer dominion in the 12th century, Kanchanaburi was also culturally influenced by the Khmer Empire, This shrine is therefore, evidence of the expansion of the influence of the Khmer Empire in this area. Guide : Probably the laterite does not lend itself to intricate decorations and the workers could have been local artisans who were not as skiful.
