  1. SPS Access Safety System Patrick Lienard, Elena Manola-Poggioli on behalf of the SPS Access Project Team: M.Grill, S.Grau, P.Lienard, E.Manola-Poggioli, R. Nunes, R.Villard TS/CSE C.Arimatea, J.Axensalva, J.Ridewood, G.Robin AB/OP EDMS: 698337

  2. Agenda • Description of the present SPS Access System • and where it does not satisfy the INB requirements • Upgrade plan • Compensatory measures for 2006 Run EDMS: 698337

  3. Access to SPS • EIS Acces: • Access Points • ‘Portes Grille’ • ‘Portes blindee’ • ‘Monte charge’ • ‘Puisards Techniques’ • EIS Faisceau: • Power Converters 400V • Power Converters 18kV • BHZ 377 • TEDs • Extraction kickers EDMS: 698337

  4. Access to SPS : Safety Chains EDMS: 698337

  5. SPS Access Modes • SPS Access Modes • Mode ‘Closed’ • Mode ‘Shutdown’ • Mode ‘Supervised Access’ EDMS: 698337

  6. System Architecture (from 1995) • All safety functions based on a S5 PLCs architecture, single points of failure. • Excellent “retour d’experience”. • The INB policy is to always have redundancy in all critical safety systems. EDMS: 698337

  7. SPS Upgrade Project: phases and milestones Introduction d’une voie câblée redondante Shutdown Shutdown Mesures compensatoires Voie câblée redondante + + Nouveau Système d’accès SPS Système d’accès SPS actuel Système d’accès SPS actuel t Run ‘’08 SPS+LHC Run ‘07 SPS+LHC Run ’06 SPS *Date suivant le schedule des accelerateurs EDMS: 698337

  8. Compensatory measures: Run 2006 • Access doors: • Caps on the doors locks, but only in entry direction • Emergency exits non affected • Sector doors in the transfer lines used as emergency exits will be connected directly to neighboring AUG chains: • PPG66003 in TT6 in to extraction zone towards TI2 • PPG4004 in TT40 in the extraction zone towards TI8 and CNGS • PPG21161 in the interface zone between TT20 and target region TCC2. • PPG100611 in TT10 in the transfer tunnel between PS and SPS OPENING THE DOOR WILL TRIGGER AN EMERGENCY STOP OF SPS! EDMS: 698337

  9. Compensatory measures 2006: connection with the AUG chains EDMS: 698337

  10. Doors being connected to AUG (Run 2006) Approx. 30 m distance EDMS: 698337

  11. Doors being connected to AUG (Run 2006) EDMS: 698337

  12. Doors being connected to AUG (Run 2006) EDMS: 698337

  13. Doors being connected to AUG (Run 2006) EDMS: 698337

  14. Compensatory measures 2006 • Installation and test (TS-CSE, TS-EL, AB-OP) • Test protocol is being prepared • Signalization: ATTENTION: L‘ouverture provoque l'arret d'urgence general Contactez la Salle de Controle: Tel 77500 EDMS: 698337

  15. Project Phase 2, Run 2007: Cable Loop • In redundancy with the present PLC based system. • Limited scope (LHC solution): Detect an intrusion on the external envelope and put in the safe position the ‘EIS-faisceau’. • One cable loop per chain: no conflict with the present SPS operating modes. EDMS: 698337

  16. Projet Phase 2, Run 2007: Cable Loop SAFE Logique Câblée Portes Blindées UNSAFE VETO voie câblée VETO voie PLC (MIS) V EIS Faisceaux EDMS: 698337

  17. Projet Phase 2, Run 2007: Cable Loop EDMS: 698337

  18. Project Phase 3: New SPS access system • New architecture based on safety PLCs and cable loop implemented in 2007. • Planning and cost under study. EDMS: 698337

  19. Thank you for your attention! EDMS: 698337
