The SPS Access Project Team presents an overview of the current SPS Access System, highlighting its shortcomings in meeting INB requirements. This includes an upgrade plan and compensatory measures for the 2006 run. Key components such as access points, safety chains, power converters, and access modes are discussed. The introduction of a redundant cable loop system is planned for improved safety architecture. This initiative aims to enhance critical safety functions and ensure compliance with INB policies for redundancy in safety systems.

Access to SPS • EIS Acces: • Access Points • ‘Portes Grille’ • ‘Portes blindee’ • ‘Monte charge’ • ‘Puisards Techniques’ • EIS Faisceau: • Power Converters 400V • Power Converters 18kV • BHZ 377 • TEDs • Extraction kickers EDMS: 698337

SPS Access Modes • SPS Access Modes • Mode ‘Closed’ • Mode ‘Shutdown’ • Mode ‘Supervised Access’ EDMS: 698337
System Architecture (from 1995) • All safety functions based on a S5 PLCs architecture, single points of failure. • Excellent “retour d’experience”. • The INB policy is to always have redundancy in all critical safety systems. EDMS: 698337

Compensatory measures: Run 2006 • Access doors: • Caps on the doors locks, but only in entry direction • Emergency exits non affected • Sector doors in the transfer lines used as emergency exits will be connected directly to neighboring AUG chains: • PPG66003 in TT6 in to extraction zone towards TI2 • PPG4004 in TT40 in the extraction zone towards TI8 and CNGS • PPG21161 in the interface zone between TT20 and target region TCC2. • PPG100611 in TT10 in the transfer tunnel between PS and SPS OPENING THE DOOR WILL TRIGGER AN EMERGENCY STOP OF SPS! Project Phase 2, Run 2007: Cable Loop • In redundancy with the present PLC based system. • Limited scope (LHC solution): Detect an intrusion on the external envelope and put in the safe position the ‘EIS-faisceau’. • One cable loop per chain: no conflict with the present SPS operating modes.
