  1. Quarter 3 Research Essay:Modernism in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot may initially appears to be a discussion on love between men and women, however, the poem is a reflection of the many facets of Modernism. In 5-7 pages typed in MLA format, you will write an essay analyzing “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” by T.S. Eliot and develop a THESIS relating to the themes and historical issues of American Modernism. This research essay should have an ARGUABLE thesis that is supported by textual evidence and at least TWO secondary sources. When generating ideas for a possible thesis, consider how the work that you selected embodies Modernism whether it be through the themes, symbolism, imagery, and/or form of the work. As you narrow your topics, consider the following questions: • What are several key characteristics of literary modernism? What were the effects of these influential factors? • What are several historical, social, and cultural forces that prompted the modernist movement? • How did T.S. Eliot address issues of Modernism in his poem? What techniques did he use to highlight those issues?
