Saving Lives Through Education, Involvement and Commitment Who Are We: Drive Safe Hampton Roads is a coalition whose mission is to increase the community’s involvement and awareness of traffic safety issues. Recognized as a leader in the field of transportation safety, Drive Safe serves as a resource for information and support at the local, state and national levels. Honors include the Governor’s Transportation Safety Board, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the National Association of Governor’s Highway Safety Representatives. P.O.   3. Saving Lives Through Education, Involvement and Commitment Committees: Occupant Protection: Develops programs to educate the public about occupant protection issues. Occupant Protection includes the Get It Together (GIT) High School Seat Belt Challenge, the Old, Used, Borrowed and Abused Child Safety Seat Round-Up, regional child safety seat checks, and Silver Driver (senior driver) issues. Impaired Driving Prevention: Works to develop programs to educate the public regarding the dangers of driving impaired, such as alcohol / drug use, under age drinking, aggressive driving, fatigued and distracted driving. This committee has developed Good Times Guide posters for use in both the general population and in the military community. P.O. Saving Lives Through Education, Involvement and Commitment Committees continued: Specialized Transportation Safety: Focuses on promoting safe movement practices and traffic safety within the motor carrier community.  This includes Driver Appreciation Days, the Southeast Motor Carrier Safety and Management Conference, public education and awareness, overweight / dimensional permitting information, and general motor carrier safety. There are several subcommittees which address specific areas of traffic safety and the motor carrier community, i.e. Law Enforcement, Permits, and Construction. P.O.   5. Saving Lives Through Education, Involvement and Commitment Committees continued: Membership and Development: Serves to recruit, retain, and educate the membership and volunteers. This includes the Speaker's Bureau, Resource Development, and online resources. Peninsula Drive Safe: Provides a forum for members and invited guests to share information about traffic safety and injury prevention resources, events, and efforts on the Peninsula. Saving Lives Through Education, Involvement and Commitment How You Can Help: If you are interested in any aspect of traffic safety to include: Seat belt safety; Alcohol/drug related traffic issues; Child safety seats; Heavy truck safety; Corporate traffic safety; Aggressive driving issues; National safety issues; Military traffic safety; Senior driver’s issues; Traffic safety legislation; Novice drivers issues; or other traffic safety topics. Membership is free and open to anyone interested in preventing death and injury on our highways. Impacting transportation safety takes the efforts of many dedicated people.
