  1. Rules, Rules, Rules A Talking Book for Second Grade

  2. Hi, I’m Mia and I attend the Majority Rules Elementary School.

  3. Every morning we show patriotism to our country by saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Will you say it with me today?

  4. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

  5. Wow, you did a great job! Who knows what symbol you face when you say the Pledge of Allegiance? Would you like to meet my classmates and teacher? Great, let’s go!

  6. This is my classroom and my teacher, Mrs. Fair. She is always telling us to be good citizens and show responsibility. When you are a good citizen you try to be positive with your classmates, teachers, and school staff. Can you think of another way to be a good citizen?

  7. In my classroom Mrs. Fair and the class made a list of class rules on the first day of school. We had to think of consequences that went with our rules. Does anyone know what a consequence is? Good! A consequence is a result of an action.

  8. Does anyone remember the name of my school?

  9. You’re right! Majority Rules! My school was named after a part of our election system. My class read the book Duck for President. This book is about a duck who decided he didn’t like the farm rules. Sometimes in our classroom we have to make decisions.

  10. Remember when the two candidates Chocolate Chip Cookie and Milano Cookie ran for President? We had to be informed citizens in order to vote for the best candidate. Do you remember who you voted for in your class election?

  11. These are the steps for electing the best candidate in an election: Will you say them with me? • Register to Vote • Be informed • Make a decision • Complete a ballot

  12. Great, now we all know the steps!

  13. How did you feel when you had to pay taxes at the beginning of the year for services such as sharpening your pencil and going to the bathroom?

  14. Did you have enough money to get what you wanted?

  15. Sometimes it’s hard to be a good citizen because we have to give up things we want for things we need. But, remember if we didn’t pay taxes we would not have gym and playground equipment, computers, books, and chairs, as well as many other things.

  16. I hope you enjoyed the tour of Majority Rules Elementary School! Don’t forget to be a good citizen!
