Transforming Assi Ghat: A Sustainable Model Initiative for Environmental Conservation

Our vision is to develop Assi Ghat as a model ghat by addressing the current challenges of improper solid waste management, lack of sanitary facilities, and energy inefficiency. We aim to combat health hazards, boost tourism, and reduce pollution through proper waste management, facility renovation, and rule enforcement. Our plan includes providing dustbins, technical support, and community education. We expect cooperation in maintaining cleanliness, imposing fines, and assessing progress regularly. By implementing these steps and deadlines, we aim to complete the transformation by mid-April and mid-July.

  2. Present Scenario Improper management of solid waste particularly plastics Improper sanitary facilities Problem of drinking water Inefficient management of energy Lack of civil ethics and awareness Lack of implementation of rules Improper allocation to shops

  3. Harmful effects • Severe health hazards for all living beings • Great setback to tourism industries • Increase in pollution • Waste of precious energy

  4. What needs to be done • Management of solid waste • Providing and maintaining dustbins • Proper disposal of collected waste • Renovation of existing sanitary and water facilities • Use of solar panels for streetlights • Strict implementation of rules par say ban of tobacco, trespassing by the parking lot owner and shopkeepers

  5. What we will do !!! • Providing dustbins • Providing technical support & scientific reviews • Educating people and creating awareness • Providing all sort of support regarding implementation

  6. What we expect from you • Regular cleaning of Ghat & proper dumping facility • Imposition of fine • Regular assessment of progress • Need full co-operation

  7. How shall we achieve it !!! • Proper fixation of the provided Dustbins • Banners and posters for awareness • Fine: A fixed area will be allocated and the shopkeepers will be responsible • Rudimentary area shall be looked after by the boatmen with collective responsibility to pay the fine

Steps and deadlines • First stage • Implementing fine system • Waste management • Proper placement of dustbins and banners • Preventing trespassing to all possible levels Expected date of completion – Mid April • Second stage • Proper sanitation and facilities • Solar streetlamp Expected date of completion – Mid July
