  3. Losing SOAR Points • Soar points are deducted by ALL teachers for violations of school and/or classroom rules and procedures. Points range in amounts from 2-20 points, depending on the offense. • Each week SOAR points are totaled by the SOAR/AR teacher. Averages are sent home weekly in your child’s purple SOAR/AR folder. 5th and 6th grade send folders home every Tuesday. Folders must be returned by Thursday or the child will receive a SOAR slip.

  4. Everyone starts with 100 SOAR points • At the end of the 9 weeks, students with 80 points will be able to attend a SOAR celebration. • Students who maintain a 100 average for the entire semester will earn a special privilege. • All students who maintain a 100 average for the entire school year will be invited to a very special event!!!!

  6. Earning SOAR Points • Students may attend VOLUNTARY detention on Wednesday and/or Thursdays from 3:00-4:00. Voluntary detention will add 5 points to your SOAR point total. Students may serve voluntary detention as long as his/her SOAR score is above an 80. • Students will attend Mandatory detention on Wednesday’s and/or Thursday’s from 3:00-4:00. Mandatory detention will add 5 points to your SOAR point total.

  7. Earning SOAR points • You my earn 1 point by serving voluntary silent lunch. • You may earn 5 points for voluntary and/or mandatory detention. Mandatory detention occurs if a student loses 15 points in one week from the same teacher or if a student’s total SOAR points fall below 80. Voluntary detention may be served as long as the student’s SOAR average is above an 80. • You may earn 2 points for completing one week of break detention. • Students can earn 3 points by completing sentences or any written assignments assigned by the teacher. Teachers have the freedom to create proper punishment and proper point rewards as they see fit as long as it is consistent and fair.

  8. Special Circumstances • Falling below 60: Parents would be contacted and scheduled for a conference with teachers and administrators. • Students who have been assigned to ISS by the administration form more than two days in one nine weeks will not be allowed to attend the SOAR celebration. These students will be removed from the SOAR program for the remainder of the 9 weeks. The student will be assigned an alternative discipline program by administration and grade level teachers. Upon completion of this program the student will re-enter SOAR with an 85 average. If the teachers or administration determine that a student should be removed from SOAR for the remainder of the 9 weeks then the students will be referred to the principal or assistant principal by means of an office referral form.

  9. Special Circumstances • Students who are suspended from school (for any reason) will not be allowed to attend the SOAR celebration for the 9 weeks period in which they are suspended. The student will be assigned to an alternative discipline program by administration. Students will be referred to the principal or assistant principal by means of an office referral form.

  10. SOAR Celebrations • Because SOAR is a plan that rewards positive behavior, great care is taken in the planning of each celebration. Past celebrations have included a black light party, a carnival-like field day, movies and popcorn on the big screen, faculty talent show, and Fear Factor Southside. All celebrations are held during the school day and within the student’s grade level.
