This experiment explores how to prevent an egg from cracking when dropped from a height of 16 feet. The hypothesis proposed that cotton balls would cushion the egg effectively, while a bath towel was also used as a protective layer. The potential energy gathered by the egg during the drop converts to kinetic energy, influencing the outcome. Upon conducting the experiment, it was found that the bath towel successfully protected the egg, while the cotton balls did not achieve the expected result, thus disproving the hypothesis.

Problem • How can you prevent an egg in a container from cracking when dropped from 16 feet ?
Hypothesis • I think cotton balls will protect the egg.
Information • The egg will gather an amount of potential energy when it is let go from a height of 16 feet. Most of the energy that is produced becomes kinetic energy as it falls. Some of the potential energy becomes thermal energy because of the friction in the air.
Materials • 1 container • 1 bath towel • Cotton balls • 2 eggs
Conclusion • When the egg was dropped from 16 feet, the bath towel did protect the egg from cracking. However, the cotton balls did not. Therefore, my hypothesis was incorrect.
