  1. A New EMCAL+HCAL for Trigger Upgrade Vasily Dzhordzhadze University of Tennessee Trigger Update Meeting 11/03/03

  2. Detection of forward going photons and jets is aimed by a new proposal of trigger upgrade. This Project assumes to building a new EMCAL (W/Si) and hadron Tile catcher (Cu/Sci) on both sides of the PHENIX IP. A new material installed inside PHENIX detector will influence on a detection of the Jpsi particles, which are decaying into the muon pairs. In this study the influence of the new material on Jpsi->mumu is estimated. A new EMCAL is intended to replace existing nosecone and HCAL will be placed 127 cm away from the IP. Simulation was done with current nosecone (19 cm of Cu in Z direction), nosecone replaced by 9 cm of Tungsten, 7 cm of Tungsten, 9 cm of Tungsten + HCAL, 7 cm of Tugsten + HCAL. Simulation chain: Pythia (Jpsi->mumu) event generation->PISA->PISAtoPRDF-> preco->Fun4All->analysis (mumu mass spectrum). Input: 1000 Jpsi-> mumu .

  5. Conclusion Implementation of new calorimeters into the PHENIX doesn’t change significantly the resolution and yield of the Jpsi particles decaying into the muon pairs. Studying of the implementation of coordinate detectors in the EMCAL system is underway. Aditional track coordinates in front of the MuTracker with high resolution will improove the Jpsi mass resolution further. The new calorimeters will be used also for the studies of particle production at very forward region.
