1. Ratios Unit 2 Practice

2. Carlos has 4 tennis balls and 5 baseballs. • Using your colored tiles, create a model of this situation. Then, use your dry erase marker to label the model. How can we compare the number of each type of ball to the total number of balls? *Remember to show all 3 ways* How can we compare the number of one type to the number of the other type?

3. Chris mixes 4 cups of cereal, 3 cups of pecans, and 2 cups of raisins to make a snack mix. • Using your colored tiles, create a model of this situation. Then, use your dry erase marker to label the model. What are 3 ways to write the ratio of cups of cereal to cups of pecans? Part : Part Part : Whole Whole : Part Does the ratio of cereal to pecans compare part to part, part to whole, or whole to part?

4. Snack mix, continued… • What is the total amount of snack mix? How could we write ratios to compare the total amount of each ingredient to the total amount of snack mix?

5. Leo blew up 7 balloons. Kathy blew up 5 balloons. Model and write each ratio at least 2 different ways. • 1) Ratio of Kathy’s balloons to Leo’s balloons 2) Ratio of Leo’s balloons to Kathy’s balloons 3) Ratio of total balloons to Leo’s balloons

6. Each class has the goal of selling 100 tickets to the school carnival. Miss garcia’s class sells 87 tickets. Mr. Carpenter’s class sells 113 tickets. 7. Ms. OWENS has 4 times as many weeds in her garden as she does flowers. • What is the ratio of weeds to total plants in the garden? How could we use the ratio and models to determine how many flowers are actually in the garden? • If we know there are 16 weeds in the garden, how could we show how many flowers there are, using our model?

8. The ratio of nieces to nephews in my family is 1:3. • On your whiteboards, write “T” for true, or “F” for false. a) For every nephew in my family, I have 3 nieces. • b) For every niece in my family, I have 3 nephews. • c) The ratio of nephews to the total is 3:4. • d) I have a total of exactly 4 nieces and nephews.
