  2. China Political Geography • Most populated country in the world. Pop: 1,321,851,888 • Capital: Beijing • Major Cities: Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macao, Nanjing

  3. China’s History • China has a long and ancient history. • The Great Wall of China was created to keep out Mongols. • Gunpowder was invented in China. (it was only used for fireworks)

  4. China During WW2 • During WW2 China was occupied by the Japanese. • Two sides who were fighting for control of China formed a temporary alliance to fight the Japanese. • After the war they started to fight again and the communist side won.

  5. China’s Government • Government: Communist • Economy: Fast becoming one of the world’s largest economies. • Has had problems with human rights issues.

  6. China’s Physical Geography • China has a vast variety of climates. Everything from deserts to tropical rainforests. • Major Rivers: Yellow River, Yangtze River • Major Deserts: Gobi Desert

  7. Three Gorges Dam • The largest dam in the world. Over a mile and a half long and 600 feet high. • Has displaced over 1.5 million people. • Located on the Yangtze River in the Three Gorges Region.

  8. China Today • China is fast becoming one of the most powerful countries in the world. • China is the worlds leader in clothing production.

  9. Some economic projections say China (and India) may pass up the United States as the world’s strongest economy in your lifetime.

  10. Chuck Norris' first job was as a paperboy. There were no survivors.
