  4. What does the number tell me? • 696.10 JAM The three letters found at the end of the call number are the first three letters of the author’s last name. The author of this book is Robert James.

  7. What does the number at the beginning tell me? • 394.26 DAL The number tells you where to find the book in the nonfiction section. The numbers go in order like counting! Books about the same subject are kept together in groups.
