  2. The Day of AtonementLeviticus 16 • Not just any time v.1 • Once per year – 7th month, 10th day v.29 • Special garments to enter v.4 • Must wash before putting on garments v.4 • Bring blood of bull as sin offering for himself v.3,6,11 • Fill censor with coals and take incense to burn v.12-13

The Day of AtonementLeviticus 16 • He sprinkles the blood 7 times on the mercy seat v.14 • He kills the goat for Israel’s sin offering v.15 • He applies the blood in the same manner • He is alone v.17 • He transfers all the sins onto the live goat by confessing Israel’s sins v.21 • The goat is released into the wilderness v.22

The Day of AtonementLeviticus 16 • He washes and changes clothes again v.23 • He offers the burnt offering v.24 • He offers the fat of the sin offering v.25 • The sin offering is burned outside the camp v.25,27 • The man leading the goat out must wash himself and his clothes v.26 • The one who burns the sin offering must also wash himself and his clothes v.28

Spiritual Realities Reflected in the Day of Atonement Hebrews 9:1-10:21 • 9:8-10 the true way into the true tabernacle could not be revealed as long as the first tabernacle and its services continued • The sacrifices could not take away sin or its guilt • 9:11-15 animal blood and bodies ceremonially purified in order to illustrate that the blood of Christ purifies the soul

Spiritual Realities Reflected in the Day of AtonementHebrews 9:1-10:21 • 9:16-22 refers to the making of the first covenant • Many good lessons here for another time • 9:23-10:4 Day of Atonement and tabernacle were a copy of the true holy place and purification (perfection) • Had to be done in Heaven • Blood of Christ one time sufficient for all time

Spiritual Realities Reflected in the Day of Atonement • 2 Corinthians 5:21 Christ is the sin offering • Romans 3:23-26 He is our atonement • 1 Peter 2:22-25 our sins were transferred to Him when He was on the cross • Hebrews 5:1-10:18 He is the High Priest • Hebrews 10:19-20 He is the veil in the temple • Put your faith in Him and His sacrifice 10:22-24
