Assassination Victim • The assassination victim I chose to research was Abraham Lincoln
Background of Assassination Victim • Lincoln was the 16th president of the Unite States • Married to Mary Todd • Abolished slavery • Granted certain blacks the right to vote • Born in Kentucky but moved around to Indiana and then to Illinois • Wasn’t really a popular president but became a very respected one when he died.
Why did you choose to research this victim? • I chose to research this victim because I already knew some facts about him and I wanted to learn more about this victim.
When did the assassination occur? • This assassination occurred on April 14, 1865
Where did the assassination occur? • This assassination occurred in the Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C
Who were the assassins? • John Wilkes Booth was the assassin
How did the assassination occur? Booth’s original plan was to capture Lincoln at a play in a hospital outside of Washington. Lincoln then change his plans and decided to stay in the capital. Two days later, he went to Lincoln’s speech and heard about him giving certain blacks the right to vote which made Booth mad. Booth’s plans on capturing him turned into an assassination.
Continuation… On the night of April 14, 1865, Lincoln went to Ford’s Theatre to watch a play called “Our American Cousins” with his wife, Major Rathbone, and his fiancé, Clara Harris. As the play was going on, Booth entered the president’s box tricking the guard that he was a Senator and was sent by Lincoln.
Continuation… • Major Rathbone told him that he was inside the president’s box and then Booth stepped out. Then, Booth took out a dagger and revolver and entered the box again. He aimed his revolver at the back of Lincoln’s head and shot. No one heard
How did this assassination occur? Booth’s original plan was to capture Lincoln at the play at the hospital outside of Washington but failed because Lincoln change his plans and decided to stay in the capital. Two days later, Booth went to Lincoln’s speech and heard that Lincoln was giving certain blacks the right to vote which made him mad. His plans on capturing Lincoln turned into an assassination. On the night of April 14, 1865, Lincoln, his wife, Major Rathbone, and his fiancé went to Ford’s Theatre to watch a play called “Our American Cousin.”
Continuation… While the play was going on, Booth tricked the guard saying he was a Senator and that Lincoln sent him. Major Rathbone saw him and told him that he was in the President’s box so he headed out. He re entered again minutes later with a revolver an a dagger. He aimed his revolver at Lincoln’s head and shot. No one heard the noise because everyone was laughing at a funny part. Surgeons were called but they couldn’t do anything. He was pronounced dead on April 15, 1865.
Why did the assassination occur? • This assassination occurred because Booth wanted revenge. He hated Lincoln because Lincoln represented everything Booth was against. Booth blamed Lincoln for all the South’s ills. Then Booth heard about Lincoln’s speech about granting certain blacks the right the vote which made booth mad and turned his plans into assassination.
What were the effects of the assassination? The effects of the assassination was that the U.S had lost a Presidentbut he turned into an unpopular president to a very respected one. When Booth was pushed off the balcony, he landed on the stage but he shattered a bone in his leg. On the same week, he was shot to death by Sergeant Boston Carbett.
