  1. Welcome to Piano Lab

  2. Course Description • Students will learn how to read music and play the keyboard and piano. • Advanced Students will increase their ability to play the piano through improved • Technique, new literature, and new theoretical concepts.

  3. Student Expectations • To practice the assigned materials on a daily basis. Playing and practicing are two different concepts. • To perform theory and ear-training exercises. • To understand written music as well as what is heard. • To publicly perform memorized piano selections and duets. • To understand the historical context of the music. • To improvise from a given chord progression or from a given melody.

  4. Music • Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course, Levels I, II, III by Palmer, Manus and Lethco • Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary Music • Holiday music/duets

  5. Grading Policy • Piano Selections • Daily Improvement • Progress • Written theory tests • Class recitals • Final exam – The recital will consist of a memorized solo which will count 25% of the semester grade. The required final exam recital is Monday, December 12, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
