ASSESSMENT OF VEHICULAR POLLUTION IN INDORE PHASE – 2 . SUBMITTED BY RUCHIR LASHKARI M. Tech. (Env. Engg.)
Definition of Polllution Pollutionis undesirable change in the quality of our environment (land, water and air) that adversely affects human life, property, plants and animals etc. Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 defines- -Air pollutants as solid, liquid or gas present in atmosphere in such concentrations as may be or tend to be injurious to humans, other living creatures and so to the environment. -Air pollution is the presence of pollutants in atmosphere.
Causes of vehicular pollution • High population in the urban areas has also resulted in increase in the number of vehicles, raising of vehicular air pollution. • 2. Older vehicles (2-stroke 2/3-wheelers) are a significant contributor of air pollution. • 3.Inadequate inspection and maintenance facilities of vehicles. • 4. Adulteration of fuel and fuel products • 5. Improper traffic management system and road conditions • 6. Absence of an effective mass rapid transport system and intra-city railway Networks.
ABOUT INDORE CITY • A historical city situated on the banks of River Khan and Saraswati. • RaoNandlalChaudhry was founder of Indore in 1713. • Latitude - 22° 44’ North Longitude - 75° 50’ East • Nerve centre - of the economic activities of the state • Commercial capital of central India • Population - 2.5 million by 2011 (likely to rise) 3.6 million by 2035
Area of Indore - 3,898 square kms • Climate of Indore – • 1.Precipitation- 945 mm (37.2 inch) • 2.Temperature- 44 ˚C in summer • - 24 ˚C in winter • Altitude of Indore – 545 meters • Indore now is going to become the next IT City in India.
Effects of rising population • Rise in population in the recent past has contributed to a large scale increase in traffic on the city roads. • Increased intensity of traffic-resulted in the manifestation of a number of problems like congestion, delay, accidents, POLLUTION, etc. • Pollution-a potential threat to the economic vitality and productive efficiency of the city
STATION COVERED IN SAMPELING • TWO HIGHLY TRAFFIC CONJESTED AREA HAS TAKEN UNDER THE SAMPELING SITE TO MEASURE THE VEHICULAR POLLUTION LOAD. • PALASIA SQUARE IS SITUATED ON NATIONAL HIGHWAY NO.3 .THIS CONSIST OF HIGH TRAFFIC LOAD THROUGH OUT A DAY. • PALSIKAR SQUARE IS SITUATED AT THE CENTER OF CITY WHICH CONNECTS WAY TO MANIKBAAG BRIDGE, WAY TO JUNI INDORE, COLLECTOR OFFICE AND PAGNISPAGA.
