Good to Know during this time period.. • Eastern and western hemispheres were not joined • Although trade is intensifying during this era, there is no real sustained contact between the hemispheres There was not a lot of major innovations, but technology did expand • Ex- technologies such as stirrups, steel plow, and silk making techniques diffused far beyond the origin of innovation
Good to know… • No Political form became dominate • Empires during this era were smaller • Other organizations emerged, such as kingdoms, caliphates, and khanates
Good to know… • Environmental changes were not as great as in other eras • More areas became agricultural, but there were no massive transformations of areas from their natural environment • Most cities remained patriarchies with clear social distinctions • Very few changes in gender relations • Slavery remained characteristic in most social systems • Status and wealth still was based on land holdings
