This project focuses on improving the efficiency of the Piping and Packaging line at Dresser-Rand’s Olean facility. The goal is to significantly reduce the assembly cycle time from 2-3 months to just 16 days, addressing the current backlog of orders while ensuring high safety standards for employees. Utilizing lean production techniques, the project employs the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodology and factory simulation/modeling to optimize workflows, enhance space utilization, and meet the demands in the oil, gas, and chemical sectors.

Customer Overview • “For more than 100 years, Dresser-Rand has been among the largest global suppliers of rotating equipment solutions, with field-proven centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, expanders, gas turbine packages, and control systems.” • Produce equipment worldwide for companies within the oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, process industries. • Olean facility is 2 hours Southwest of Rochester.
Customer Needs • The goal of the project is to reduce cycle time of the Piping and Packaging line. • Products can be assembled in 16 days but are taking 2-3 months • Currently, there is a 2 year backlog of orders for Dresser-Rand’s products. • Maintain a high level of safety for the employees. • Free up some floor space within the plant.
