  2. What is the need? • Hunger • Lack of healthy food • Lack of community

  3. How to fix the problems? • Community gardens- a garden in the community with different lots so people may grow their own food. • First community garden with a purpose

  4. Guess what's growin’ ? • Easy to plant • Tomatoes • Beans • Pumpkins • Corn • Carrots • Potatoes • Peppers • Eggplant • Lettuce • Radish • Cucumbers • Zucchini

  5. Specific Action Steps • Get permission from Heart and Soul to use their lot for the community garden • Fundraise for materials we need using car wash, bake sale etc. -Tiller (~$250) -Fencing to keep out little animals (~$200) -Gardening Supplies: hoes, rakes, gloves, hose, fertilizer, shovels etc. (~$100) -Seeds (~$50) Est. total cost= $600 3. Buy materials using money we have fundraised

  6. Specific Action Steps 4. Spread information about the garden to raise awareness -Posters -Bulletins -Social Media 5. Host a gardening party community event to teach families how to use the community garden

  8. Support We Have • Our church, Heart & Soulmay allow us to use an empty lot thatis just begging for a community garden • Pastor Joanne Colon may oversee and help • David F. Gantt Community Center, Preston Sanders, will also help with project

  9. Problems this Addresses • Economical- people can grow their own vegetables instead of having to buy expensive vegetables from the grocery store • Environmental- this will add organic gardens to the community and the garden will make community look nice • Social- fun, bonding activity for the community
