  1. Learning at home 23.05.14 Phonics • We have continued to recognise, read and write words containing the split digraph sounds. For example a/e, i/e, o/e and u/e. • Here are some words that you could practise reading, spelling or writing in a sentence. • T • he mole dug a hole in the soil. We stick the cube on the tube. It is rude to call out. • Maths - We have been looking at addition and subtraction. We have worked out simple calculations in the form of word problems e.g. There were 8 fish swimming in the sea, 3 fish got eaten by a shark. How many fish were left? • The children had to work out which calculation it was (addition/subtraction) and then they could use resources, e.g. counters to find the answer. • Thank you SO much for all the generous contributions for our pirate party, we had a great day and the children looked fantastic in their outfits! We will add the photographs to the website as soon as we can. • Letters regarding the trip to tropical world will be sent out the first week back. A reminder of the date – Thursday 26th June. • Have a lovely half term and we shall see you all on Monday 2nd June.

  2. Learning at home 23.05.14 Phonics • The children have been consolidating the split digraph sounds a/e, e/e, i/e, o/e, u/e. They have been using these words in simple sentences • e.g. The game was not good but we did win. I think that this will be even. The cube can stick to the tube. • We have also been looking at alternative sounds such as ay, a/e • e.g. day, stay, play, game, shame, whale. • Can you continue to practise your writing during the holidays, try to extend your sentences using connectives e.g. They played a game but it was very hard.
