  2. Victim VS. Drunk Driver • Mr. Grant • Hit in 1983 • Spent 6 weeks in ICU • Took over a year to walk • Again in 1995 • Broke vertebras • Brought back pain from previous injuries • Mr. Cartwright • DUI at 19 • NO punishment • DUI • Paid $200 fine • DUI • Drivers License taken away for 2 years

Their Lives Today • Mr. Grant • 45 years old • Depends on Pain Meds just to walk • Missed out on a lot of events in his kids and grandkids life because of his pain! • Mr. Cartwright • 43 years old • Just got out of rehab still drinks and drives!! • Says his kids can starve before he goes without beer

  5. Today’s Punishments • First DUI • Fine not to exceed $2,000 • Jail for minimum 72 hours • Community Service 24-100 hours • Second DUI • AA meetings • No alcohol consumption while on probation • Restitution Center

  6. Today’s Punishments • Third DUI • Fine not to Exceed $10,000 • Jail for not less than 2 no more than 10 years • Deep Lung Air Device • Community Service • Suspension of license for 180 days to 2 years

  7. Punishments That We Need • Second & Third DUI • Impound your car • No DL for a minimum of 2 years • Longer Jail Time • Stricter probation officers • Longer time in restitution center for 3rd DUI
