  2. Tides • The daily rise and fall of Earth’s waters on the shorelines. • Caused by the gravitational pull between the Earth, moon, and Sun.

  3. Two Types of Tides • Spring Tides • Twice a month, the Sun and moon are lined up. • This combined gravity creates the STRONGEST pull on the water.

  4. Two Types of Tides • Neap Tides • Twice a month, the Sun and moon are at right angles to each other. • This combined gravity creates the WEAKEST pull on the water.

  5. Moon • is kept in orbit by Earth’s gravity. • is visible because it reflects sunlight. • does NOT give off its own light.

  6. MoonPhases • As the Earth revolves around the Sun, the moon revolves around the Earth. • The phase of the moon you see depends on how much of the sunlit side of the moon is facing Earth.
