Fractions at home, cont. • When you are in the kitchen cooking and the recipes ask for 2/3 cup of sugar, you have to measure using that fraction. • If you are decorating your room and you want to put a new rug on the floor you would need to know the measurements in order to get the correct fit. • If you were going to make a dress, you would need to know the persons measurement and how much material you would need to purchase. • All of the things are a form of fractions.

Fractions at work, cont. • A chef or baker would use fractions to measure the amount of an ingredient that was needed. • An construction worker would use fractions to measure the amount of wood needed to build a house or what length nails are needed. • A sales person would use fraction to add the total amount of your purchase. Adding taxes or taking discounts.

  8. Fractions everyday • Giving your friend half • Buying a lottery or raffle ticket • Picking teams with your friends • When ever you divide something between two or more people
