The NeOn project addresses the critical lack of ontology engineering infrastructure needed for the entire application development lifecycle. As a response to the ongoing software crisis, NeOn is set to facilitate large-scale semantic application development in a cost-effective manner, thus lowering entry barriers for organizations seeking semantic solutions. Launched on March 1, 2006, with its kickoff in Rome, NeOn emphasizes the importance of integrating semantic technologies into markets and society. NeoN background • Problem • No adequate ontology engineering infrastructure (at both methodological and tool level) for the whole application development lifecycle of the envisaged applications • Software crisis all over again • The NeOn solution (& the key target innovation for markets and society) • Major integrative effort needed to realise the potential of semantic technologies. NeOn will provide a radical ‘leap forward’ by providing the infrastructure needed to make large-scale semantic application development feasible and cost-effective thus lowering the entry barrier for organizations needing semantic solutions
NeOn ready to start • NeoN project starts March 1st 2006, kick off in Rome 20-22 March • Web site already active: http://www.neon-project.org • Start to work on dissemination and communication strategy • Clear message of the commercial and/or societal VALUE • In June 1st Quarterly newsletter and dissemination material -> please give us your contact details if you wish to receive it !!!
