  2. Theme: To show the important part libraries play in our society. Tone: Upbeat and happy tone, but has a slight undertone of urgency. Setting: The library (can be any library across the world)

Stanza 1 and Stanza 2 Line 1: welcome to walk – Alliteration Line 2: doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor – Everyone is welcome Line 3: books in boxes and books – Alliteration Line 4: borrow – You have to bring it back once you’re finished Line 6: From William the Conqueror to Winnie the Pooh – Something for young and old Line 7: the Mirror ... The Times – Famous and Popular British Newspapers Line 8: toddler – Small pre-school child

Stanza 3 and Stanza 4 • Line 9: loves to lend – Alliteration • The librarian loves to help. • Line 11: bitten – you really like it (you became ‘hooked’) • Line 12: author – person who wrote the novel, etc. • Line 13: battles or biography – Alliteration • Battles concern history (historical events) while a biography is a book which tells you more about a person’s life (a personal history) • Line 14: gerbils or geography – Alliteration • Gerbils are a type of small animal (rodent) and a popular pet in Britain. Geography concerns maps, etc. • Line 15: Gardening or ghosts? Sharks or science fiction? – Alliteration • Science fiction is a genre of entertainment which usually concerns Aliens, Time Travel, Robots, etc (Everything ‘science’) • Line 17: addiction - Something you like a lot.

Stanza 5 and Stanza 6 Line 18: There are students revising – going through earlier work and studying for a test Line 19: School kids...finding inspiration – They are doing research Line 21: Book Club meeting – A club people start/join so that they can get together and talk about books they have read. Line 22: browse and borrow – Alliteration Line 23: And help make sure it’s still here tomorrow – Without us, libraries will cease to exist. We need to visit them and borrow books so that they will continue to exist for future generations.
