  2. Simile A simile is a comparison of two things using the words like or as. He was as angry as a hornet defending its hive.

  3. Which of the following is a simile? My dog is a pig when he eats. My dog eats like a pig. My dog devours donuts. My dog eats a ton of food each day. The answer is B.

  4. Metaphor A metaphor is a direct comparison of two things. (It doesn’t use like or as.) She is a bear when she wakes up in the morning.

  5. Which of the following is a metaphor? My parents think my little sister is an angel. I think my sister is as devious as a fox. She has my parents snowballed. My silly sister, Sally, is six. The answer is A.

  6. Onomatopoeia An onomatopoeiais a word that sounds like the sound it names. The bacon sizzled in the frying pan.
