  1. The Amazing Appalachians By: Dariche Introduction Welcome to the Appalachians! At the Appalachians, we have wonderful places you will enjoy! There’s yummy seafood, fantastic shows, fabulous culture, and great money for jobs! So enjoy your stay!

  2. Major Cities and ProvincesCan you guess what city the pictures belong to? Here are major cities and provinces that are in the Appalachians. • Nova Scotia • P.E.I. (short form for Prince Edward Island) • New Brunswick • Newfoundland (but not Labrador) • A bit of Quebec • St. John’s • Fredericton • Halifax • Charlottetown 4. Charlottetown 3. St. John’s Fredericton Don’t these cities look beautiful? In St. John’s the buildings are very colourful and did you notice all of the water? 2. 1. Halifax

  3. Land There are different types of land in the Appalachians. Did you know that a lot of the Appalachian is lush forest? If you like lush forests with a lot of wildlife, you will love this place! In the Appalachians, there are low mountains, flat uplands and rocky cliffs. Around the Appalachians, there are A LOT of beaches. So, if you’re on a vacation, grab your sunscreen because you’ll want to come here. Did you know that in Prince Edward Island, there is red soil because of ironoxide? The soil is red as a lobster! The farming land is rich too! Do you think the land is superb? Well, I think you do!

  4. Sports and Recreation In the Appalachians, there are a lot of sports! In the summer, you can lobster net, whale watch, fish, hunt, golf, and hike. Whale watching is very popular because of all the water around the provinces! You can see whales mostly in the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick and they splash around and you can get splashed! In P.E.I., they have some of the best golf courses in North America! You can also be toured and you can visit a museum. In the winter, some of the water freezes, so you can play a lot of ice sports. Some of the sports include ice skating, ice hockey, and skiing. Do you think these sports are fabulous? I think that you do like these sports! Whale Watching Skiing

  5. Culture There are a lot of amazing culture in the Appalachians! In the Appalachians, people mostly are Canadian, English, Irish, Scottish, or French. There are a lot of festivals too! In Nova Scotia, there are over 700 festivals! There are seafood festivals, musical festivals, and farm festivals. Some seafood festivals are fantastic because of the great food there! A Pow-wow (which is a celebration) is a native celebration where they sing native songs and dance. Dancing to the music is very fun! Usually, they hold a dance competition and the winner gets a prize of money. They do this to celebrate the Indian culture. Aren’t these amazing cultures!

  6. Industry There are also great jobs in the Appalachians. Some jobs include mining, lumberjacking, farming, tourism, and fishing. Fishing is very popular because of all of the water around the provinces. There are cod, halibut, and a lot of shellfish! Canada’s fish is on demand all over the world! In P.E.I. they have a large amount of potatoes! Potato farming is the leading industry in P.E.I.! You will get a lot of money for mining or lumberjacking! These are the great jobs of the Appalachians!

  7. Delicious Food! In the Appalachians you’ll find there is a lot of fabulous food! Most of the delicious recipes in the Appalachians is seafood because of fishing. There are yummy lobster recipes, shrimp recipes, and, other fish recipes. So, if you love seafood, this is where you’ll want to go! There are also, great potatoes in the Appalachians. P.E.I. potatoes can only be found in P.E.I. and nowhere else in Canada. The potatoes are used a lot in recipes too! The food there is so heavenly, mouth watering, and appetizing! Do you think the food is yummy? I do.

  8. Climate The climate here is wonderful! It’s not too cold in the winter and not too hot in the summer. The average temperature for summer is 19’C and the average temperature for winter is -4’C. Did you know that there’s a lot of rainy days? It’s true. That’s why the region is so wet. If you thought there was no arctic here, you’d be wrong because in north Newfoundland, it’s almost like the arctic. You can see huge icebergs up here as much as in the arctic! Isn’t that amazing! rain

  9. Animals There are great animals here! There are foxes, moose, beavers, black bears, red wing black birds, deer, blue jays, raccoons, blue whales, eastern blue birds, lynxes, ducks, herons, minks, rabbits, partridge, shrimp, lobsters, crabs, cod, flounder, sole, bald eagles, harp seals , puffins, killer whales, salmon, ladybugs and a lot more. You can see them on the land, in the water, and in the cold climate in newfoundland. The animals like this place because there is good climate here, a lot of water, and a lot of forests.   10. Interesting Places A region isn’t complete without interesting places. That’s why I’ll show you the interesting places in the Appalachians! In New Brunswick, there’s a park called Odell Park. It’s a national park that has lots of forest, fresh lawns, barbeques, duck ponds, and picnics. There’s another place called the Cape Breton Highlands. It’s the highest point in Nova Scotia! You can take a hike on the Cabot trail or you can go camping on the Cabot trail in the Cape Breton Highlands! There is great scenery in the Cape Breton Highlands too! It’s very beautiful here! Another interesting place is the Hopewell rocks in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Hopewell rocks are huge rocks that can be seen in low tide and high tide. In low tide, you can walk on the sandy beach and see the whole rocks and in high tide you can see the rocks from a kayak or a boat! The confederation is a bridge that connects New Brunswick with P.E.I., because P.E.I. is an island, you have to get there somehow! So that’s why they built this huge bridge, to get to P.E.I.. The Gros Morne Park is one of Newfoundland’s national park with natural, beautiful scenery! You can see waterfalls, sandy beaches, and colourful fish here. You can also take a hike up the mountains and camp near the ocean. Aren’t these amazing places? Well, I think they’re more than amazing!   11. Entertainment The entertainment here is brilliant! In P.E.I. there’s a popular show called Anne of Green Gables. It has been translated to 15 different languages. L.M. Montgomery wrote this novel. She made this book because of the spectacular land, the fabulous ocean and the people in P.E.I.. The story is about a girl who was an orphan in Nova Scotia that was sent to a town in P.E.I. to help in a farm. She was sent by mistake, because they wanted a boy to help. After a few days, they decided to keep her. The Titanic is a ship that was supposed to be unsinkable but sank at 11:40 p.m. April 14, 1912 and it was made into a wonderful movie, but how come the Titanic is connected to the Appalachians?? Well since Halifax was the closest city to the Titanic when it sank, they were ordered by New York to rescue some of the people from the Titanic. They rescued 327 people. That is why the titanic is connected to the Appalachians. To find out more about the Titanic, you can visit the Maritime Museum while you’re at the Appalachians. Do you like the entertainment here?   12. Why Should I Live In the Appalachians?(Conclusion) Now do you like the Appalachians? You can play nice sports, visit interesting places, see amazing animals, go to A LOT of beaches, watch Anne of Green Gables, and the climate is excellent! I bet I know your answer to my question. It is a YES!!
