  6. Long Term Health Effects Of Anorexia • Complications of Anorexia: • Anorexia nervosa is a very serious illness that has a lot of effects on the body and mind. It is also associated with other problems that ranges from general poor health to life-threatening conditions. • Short Term Effects • Anorexia can cause a person to have: • Brittle hair and nails • Cold intolerance • Mild Anemia • Loss of muscle mass and swelling of joints • Long Term Effects • Heart Problems • Mental Health Issues • Death

  7. Long Term Health Effects Of Bulimia • Complications of Bulimia • Most of the effects caused by Bulimia are known as long term. Bulimia is not just a problem with food. People who are bulimic purge out their food feeling less stress and anxiety. Little do bulimics realise that this could be a serious problem • Short Term Effects • Dry skin • Cheek swelling or soreness • Muscle Fatigue • Anemia • Long Term Effects • Stomach ulcers • Tooth enamel erosion • Abdominal cramping • Heart problems • Low pulse • Depression

  8. Anorexia: The Physical Cure? • Admit you have the problem - Anorexia is very physical and mind damaging, you should seek help before you desperately need it. • Stay away from people ,places and activities that trigger your obsession to become thin- People out there aren’t really going to help you, they probably think your crazy. Don’t join activities that aren’t meant to be done by you. If you can’t do something, just admit it. The worst someone can do to you is laugh in your face for a while. • Don’t take jokes or threats seriously- If someone says that your fat in the fun of it all, don’t take more drastic measures, your already ill, the least you can do is stay alive. • Most people with anorexia may need to be hospitalized due to extreme malnutrition. • You will probably need a nutritionist telling you how and what to eat to get out of this state. • Most of all you will need counseling to get rid of all you negative thoughts and feelings. You will also need several people (most often your family) to support and help you through the crisis in your life • AVERAGE AMOUNT OF YEARS FOR TREATMENT: 5-6 years

  9. Bulimia: How do I Stop!? • Admit you have the problem- It may not look like it, but you do have a problem, if you can’t tell yourself this, it is quite likely that other people won’t know about it either. • Talk to someone about it- If you have something to say you should tell someone. It doesn’t have to be a friend of yours, it actually should be a family member. They will be able to help you, and tell you how to deal with your problems • The first step is to break the binge-purge cycle. If you can get over that hurdle, it is very likely that you may be cured. • You should solve your emotional and self esteem problems. Try not to be isolated or alone, it won’t help you at all. • You should get as much help from your family as possible. If you can connect with your inner issues and you seek for help, it is better for you. Since Bulimia is not very life threatening, you can help yourself at home. All you need is someone to support you.
