  2. 1832- Samuel Morse came up with his idea of the electromagnetic telegraph and began early developments of the invention November of 1837- Morse was able to send a telegraph from 10 miles away September 28, 1837- Morse filed to receive a patent for his telegraph invention, which he received in 1840 Samuel Morse

  3. 1846- many telegraph lines are extended and new companies are created all over; competition increases 1857- Morse worked with Cyrus Field to put the first telegraph cable under the ocean from North America to Europe; after many tries, they succeed in 1858 The invention grows
