  6. What is an ANTEcedent? • Ante – means before (Anti – means against) Pronoun –Antecedent agreement – Pronouns replace nouns. They must agree in number (singular or plural) and gender (boy or girl)

  13. Consider this analogy. • ESSENTIAL MEANING - Visualize… a hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and a cherry on top! The whipped cream and cherry are NECESSARY for the total hot fudge sundae experience. • NON-ESSENTIAL MEANING - Visualize… a hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and a cherry on top. The whipped cream and cherry are NOT NECESSARY for the sundae experience. It’s all about the hot fudge. Some whip cream and a cherry might be used, but they are not necessary for the experience.

If the sentence makes sense, it is a linking verb. Predicate NOUN – renames the subject (SUB = PN) Predicate ADJ – describes the subject • John James is a doctor. • John appears intelligent

The “false” answer is the “NOT” answer. • Process of elimination. Consider what you know and cross out every answer that is incorrect. Read closely and make an educated decision on the remaining answers. I will model these for you.

  27. Tip 4 Try to come up with your own answer before seeing the choices. This will help in choosing the best answer choice available.

  28. TIP 5 Read the entire question and all possible answers before marking your answer. Eliminate answer choices that you know cannot be right.

  29. TIP 6 Be aware of the following key words: ALL NEVER NOW ONLY ALWAYS EXACTLY

  30. TIP 7 Watch for negative words such as the following: NOT NO NEVER

  31. TIP 8 Words that are CAPTALIZED, underlined, or bold are important words.

  32. TIP 9 Be sure to answer ALL questions!

  33. TIP 10 Look for information in some of the questions. This information may help you answer other questions.

  34. TIP 11 Match the number of the answer document to the item in the test booklet.

  35. TIP 12 Don’t let the pace of others make you nervous. However, don’t spend too much time on one question.

  36. TIP 13 CONCENTRATE! Do not allow yourself to be distracted by noises or movements around you.

  37. TIP 14 Use ALL the time you are given to complete the test, and be sure to review your answers.
