  1. Kandahar Provincial veterinarian meeting • WHO: COL Bob Hayter, Lt. Col. Dallas Kratzer, MAJ Bill Hatfield, Ms. Victoria Burke, Mr. Terry Hutchens • WHAT: Surveyed Hikmat Feed Factory to coordinate farmer-trader linkages • WHEN: 13 MAR 13 • WHERE: Hikmat Feed Factory, Kandahar City, Kandahar Afghanistan • OUTCOME: • HFF produces 100 bags (each @ 50kgs) of feed per day wants to increase product to 200 bags a day. • The HFF currently produces two kinds of feed namely, ruminant and poultry. • HFF produces 4 kinds of poultry products that include: Starter feed (@ $20.00); Finisher (@$19.00); Breeder (@ $19.00) and Layer (@$18.00) per 50kg bag. All prices are lower than Pakistani prices for the same product. The ruminant feed is priced at around $.33 per Kg. • HFF is currently producing for the local and regional market, selling mainly through wholesalers who are primarily poultry integrators located mostly in Kabul. He has about 0.05% of the market share in the poultry sector, however he 100% market share for his ruminant feed in Kandahar region. • He seems to be very flexible to formulate on demand what the producer needs • KADT discussed ways of broadening HFF customer base through feeding demonstration and producer education for lambs and chickens in Zharay District. • Continue to communicate with Mr. Hikmat and hopefully have him engage with producer groups, and/or youth education programs to talk about the benefits of animal nutrition.
