  4. The Industrial Paradigm • The old paradigm that many organizations still abide by, is that human beings are things that need to be managed, motivated, and controlled. Look at history and industrialization!

  5. The Industrial Paradigm • When you treat someone like a thing (micromanage), you prevent them from finding their voice and unlocking their true potential.

  6. The Whole Person Paradigm • The Whole Person Paradigm says that human beings are four dimensional: body, mind, heart, and spirit.

  7. The Whole Person Paradigm Mind Body Spirit Heart

  8. The Whole Person Paradigm • People make choices. Consciously or subconsciously, people decide how much of themselves they will give to their work depending on how they are treated and on their opportunities to use all four parts of their nature (p. 22) Creative Excitement Heartfelt commitment Cheerful cooperation Willing compliance Malicious obedience Rebel or Quit

  9. The Whole Person Paradigm • Task: Work in your groups and come up with some scenarios that would cause you to react in one of the following ways: Creative Excitement Heartfelt commitment Cheerful cooperation Willing compliance Malicious obedience Rebel or Quit

  10. The Whole Person Paradigm • Task 2: Work within your group to develop a contract for working together that will allow you to succeed within the Whole Person Paradigm. • (Mind + Body + Heart + Spirit = Success!) • We will respect each other’s minds by __________. • We will inspire each other’s hearts by __________. • We will avoid having member’s rebel or quit by __________. • Etc.

  11. The Whole Person Paradigm • Most of the great cultural shifts - ones that have built great organizations that sustain long-term growth, prosperity and contribution to the world - started with the choice of one person. • Someone who changed themselves from the inside out. • Two choices: The Path to Mediocrity and the Path to Greatness. (p. 28) • We have the power to choose, and it’s never too late.

  12. The Whole Person Paradigm “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” ~Robert Frost

  13. The 8th Habit Assignment • Community Service Project Proposals are due July 19th. • Define the issue or problem- what are the causes, what is being done about it, what still needs to be done. • Describe your solution- create a small yet effective project that addresses the issue and contributes some part to what is already being done or what still needs to be done about it. • Listen to your conscience: What are your passions, what are your talents? Use those to meet a need!
