What is presentation software? • Presentation software is a program used to create slide shows or multimedia presentations • Multimedia means presenting data in more than one format. i.e. text, graphics, animation, video, and sound • Communicate Effectively Using Persuasive PowerPoint Visuals by presentation expert Dave Paradi

Inappropriate Uses of Presentation Software • Do not use if the original meaning is lost due to having to dissected original information to format into a presentation • Content is unimportant or does not have clear purpose • The original form of the information was an emotional speech or historical declaration and should be preserved.

Appropriate Content for Presentation • To Narrate • To display a list of names of students who participated and placed at a school competition • To display words of a song or speech for audience to participate or see • Could display location or change in location at large conference or meeting

Methods of Presentation Delivery and Distribution • Group Delivery with Speaker • Slides either display graphics, support, or add emphasis to information speaker is lecturing on • Key to this is support or supplement. The presentation should still need speaker, do not just read the slides • Group Delivery without Speaker • Presentation is played one time for audience and does not require any explanation from a speaker. • Also may be used to entertain audience before a speaker presents to the group.

Methods of Presentation Delivery and Distribution • Continuous Loop • Presentation will be played repeatedly, typically the presentation does not have an assigned beginning and an end • Good for schools and trade show settings • Rolling Script • Presentation will be played at a moderate pace so all users will be able to follow along and participate

Methods of Presentation Delivery and Distribution Self-Serve Hard Copy or Handout • May be delivered by a website, it is self paced and often has interactive features • May be accompanied by a narration • Great for training presentations • Effective method when content is foreign to audience, has to be remembered or is procedural • Make sure the hand out is properly sized to conserve materials or on the other hand that the font is not to small to read.
