  2. ACCREDITATION HISTORY & PROCEDURE 3 Probation There Are Three levels Of Action Taken By The Accreditation Agency; They Are Called Sanctions: Is the mildest sanction. The Commission may issue a warning to correct its deficiencies, refrain from certain activities, or initiate certain activities. The Commission will specify the time within which the institution must resolve these issues. The accredited status of the institution continues during the warning period. Warning Is the middle level sanction. When an institution fails to respond to conditions imposed upon it by the Commission, including a warning. During this time the Commission will work with the institution. The Commission will specify the time within which the college must resolve deficiencies. The accredited status of the institution continues during the probation period. Is the most aggressive level of sanction. When the institution has not responded to the conditions imposed by the Commission. The institution must show cause why its accreditation should not be withdrawn at the end of the stated period. The institution assumes the burden of proof to demonstrate why its accreditation should be continued. The Commission will specify the time within which the institution must resolve deficiencies. The accredited status of the institution continues during the period of the show cause order. ShowCause

  3. ACCREDITATION HISTORY & PROCEDURE How Often Does A Community College Lose Its Accreditation? Only one public community college in the history of California has ever lost its accreditation. Compton! According to Mr. Pond from the ACCJC/WASC, more colleges were removed from sanctions than placed on sanctions at the January 2009 meeting. The Commission maintains the U.S. Department of Education requires it not to allow deficiencies to exist for more than a total of two years. However, it appears that if you respond and work with the Commission, each report and each warning establishes a new time frame. See for yourself at: http://www.accjc.org/actions on policy.htm
