This report presents key environmental indicators discussed in the ETMS project meeting held in Prague from March 5-7, 2014. It encompasses three main areas: air pollution indicators (PM10, SO2, and O3 exceedances), soil sealing dynamics between 2006 and 2009, and landscape fragmentation assessments. Each section provides raw and final data, metadata, and GIS analyses relevant to urban development and sustainability. Proper documentation and maintenance protocols are essential for ensuring the ongoing relevance of these indicators in shaping environmental policy.

ETMS Environmental indicators Roger Milego (roger.milego@uab.cat) Prague, Project meeting 5-7 March 2014
ETMS ENV-02 – Air Pollution Three indicators • Number of average days where PM10 concentrations exceeds 50 µg/m3 • Number of average days where SO2 concentrations exceeds 125 µg/m3 • Number of average days where O3 concentrations exceeds 120 µg/m3 ...by Urban Audit Core Cities or LUZ

ETMS ENV-03 – Degree of soil sealing Different indicators • Soil sealing 2006 (m2 and %) • Soil sealing 2009 (m2 and %) • Change in soil sealing 2006-2009 (% with respect to 2006 / % with respect to LAU2 total area) ...by LAU2 Soil sealing or imperviousness? Pending: add 2 countries, minor correction in metadata
ETMS ENV-03 – Degree of soil sealing GIS analysis • Source data • Soil sealing raster data 100m (2006) • Soil sealing raster data 100m (2009) • Changes in soil sealing 2006-2009 100m raster. • LAU2 (2008) • GIS processing • Calculation of absolute figures of soil sealing • Zonal statistics (area of soil sealing by LAU2) • Tabular calculations (Percentage rates)

ETMS ENV-04 – Landscape fragmentation Different indicators • Major anthropogenic fragmentation • Major and minor anthropogenic fragmentation • Anthropogenic and natural fragmentation ...by NUTS X (mixture of NUTS 2&3) Possibility: calculate indexes by other territorial units

Reminder: ETMS Indicators Documentation For each indicator, a single folder in Alfresco Metadata is mandatory https://etcsdi.uab.cat/alfresco/ Tutorial: http://www.alfresco.com/help/34/community/ecmexplorerhelp/
Reminder: ETMS Indicators Documentation Indicator sample in Alfresco:
ETMS Sustainability • It should include four general aspects: • TESTING • DOCUMENTATION • MAINTENANCE • BUSINESS PLAN
ETMS Sustainability • TESTING • A procedure for testing the system should be defined once it is draft running. A testing report should be produced after each test. • Testing should ensure three aspects: • Technology, i.e. ETMS web platform • Thematics, i.e. indicator updates… • Policy relevance, i.e. new policy debates… • The sustainability document will define how often testing should be undertaken. (6 months? Yearly?)
ETMS Sustainability • DOCUMENTATION • TheSustainabilityReportshouldexplainhowallthedocumentationissafelystored (Alfresco) and whichisthestructure of thedifferentdocuments.
ETMS Sustainability • MAINTENANCE • Itshouldcarefully define: • Software maintenance • Databaseupdates • Indicatorrevision • Documentationsystemupdates • Monitoringreportsproduction and difusion
ETMS Sustainability • BUSINESS PLAN • ETMS Furtherpossibilities • Services and productsderivedfromthesystem • Mobile apps? • Newsletter? • Regular publications? • Eventsorganisation?
ETMS Sustainability Expectedcontributions (tentative) GISAT: webtooldocumentation and maintenance MCRIT: webpagedocumentation and maintenance NORDREGIO&SF: policyrelevance & indicatorupdateprotocols. UNIGE: databasedocumentation and maintenance In general: commentstothedocument once drafted!
