Turning a Blackboard into a Library. While you juggle and teach Information Literacy too! (Should work for WEBCT also!). I’m looking for a quick fix. Sustainability is a key idea. Lesson 1 COMMUNICATION. Start with a nice greeting to the students inviting them to send you their questions.

  3. Lesson 1 COMMUNICATION Start with a nice greeting to the students inviting them to send you their questions.   5. Students will communicate with their class instructor. Dear Dr. Smith, There aren’t any books in the library on my musician and if there were any I wouldn’t have the time or energy to get there. Is it okay if I just use the two paragraph article from an online encyclopedia that I Googled instead of the 3 sources you required? Susie

  6. Dear Susie, NO! Dear Susie, You will need to contact Jan the librarian. Why don’t you e-mail her? Dr. Smith Very Important P.S. Just in case you are to busy or too shy to do this I will forward this letter to Jan.

  7. Less than half the student actually contacted me after Dr. Smith recommended they do so. • My mailbox was not filled with questions.

  8. MORE ON COMMUNICATION • I thought I’d view the videotapes, read the text and monitor discussions • I DIDN’T HAVE TIME!! • Instructor forwarded e-mail to the librarian is the way to go.

  9. Lesson 2 HAVE IT WHERE THEY CAN’T MISS IT! • My first try was nice and tidy. • Green folders indicated research/library information

  10. Opening the research folder revealed a neat list of options.

  11. Students didn’t open the folders Present your information folders so they can’t help but find it.

  12. The fewer clicks the better! • Now one click to LIBRARY/RESEARCH HELP opens all the off-campus library pages

  16. Work with Instructor to Present Clear Expectations • Before submitting your rough draft or final paper complete this checklist. Remember you cannot write a research paper from general encyclopedias and brief web pages only. You need to have some substantial information to support your thesis. • If you need help at any stage of your research feel free to consult the SFCC librarians at 533-3834 or 800 251-1972 during library hours

  18. ONWARD AND UPWARD • Timely addition of the librarian biography to the student introductions the first week of class • Adding an annotated bibliography as part of the assignment so students evaluate their sources as they research • Working on a rubric to evaluate student papers
